This Filipino bank is one of the largest and oldest in Southeast Asia, with over 25,000 employees. It offers a wide range of financial products and services serving retail and corporate clients.

Challenges faced

Manual processes. Many of the bank’s processes were manual and tedious. The business units depended on IT and the governance team to automate them, but they faced delays as the IT team was stretched.

High volumes of requests. The governance team was overwhelmed by the massive volume of requests from various business units. Their existing low-code platform could not keep up with the size of their IT backlog.

Steep learning curve. The business users found it extremely difficult to adopt and build solutions using the existing platform as it was very complex for non-developers.
Solution
This established bank has a governance team responsible for maintaining security and compliance for the organization and managing the IT backlog. Before Kissflow, they used a popular low-code platform to cater to business needs and manage their backlog. The business requests came in huge volumes, and the existing low-code platform could not keep up despite its advanced capabilities. They realized they needed a completely different approach — citizen development or enabling non-IT users who wanted to create their own solutions.
The governance team planned to equip business users to solve simple use cases to reduce the volume of requests by training them on the existing low-code/no-code platform. However, the learning curve was too steep for non-developers. They needed something simple, and that’s when they found Kissflow.
The pilot program to implement Kissflow involved onboarding 8,000 users on the platform but soon scaled to 15,000+ after gaining high engagement. The users found Kissflow to be extremely user-friendly and intuitive. They could customize and build solutions to their problems without coding or IT support.
The time to market for all these solutions was the fastest this organization had seen. Kissflow’s Governance capability enabled the governance team to maintain security and compliance while getting more resources to burn through their backlog. In short, it was a win-win.
