GREENER HOMES & BUILDINGS

The Greener Homes and Buildings Group was established in 2003 to encourage both sustainable building and living.
Mid Wales has an established expertise within this field, being rich in natural resources as well as a growing skills base in the area.
People are concerned and more aware of sustainable issues and are presently receiving mixed messages which have the potential to confuse and misinform the general public.

Machynlleth

The inaugural exhibition / conference event was held in Machynlleth and took the form of display stands; exhibition areas and open seminars which ran on a variety of subjects over the two day event.

Section 2 - Public Audience:

• Principles of Eco Design for the Home - Cindy Harris, Design Commission for Wales

It was estimated that some 4-5,000 people attended over the 2 day period and covered a wide spectrum from Politicians, Professionals to ordinary people who were concerned as to how to become greener.

2nd Greener Homes and Buildings Show
Builth Wells
20th / 21st May 2006

One of the aims of this project was to establish a Greener Homes and buildings flagship event to be held annually at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells, Mid Wales which would give practical information to consumers and the trade on sustainable approaches to the design, construction and refurbishment of homes and buildings.

The 2nd Greener Homes & Buildings Exhibitions events was therefore held on the 20th / 21st May 2006 at the Royal Welsh Showground as part of the Smallholder & Garden Festival and its aim was to promote the sustainable building product and services sector from Powys, and it was run on the following format:

• Exhibition of eco products and services to design, build, furnish and renovate homes and buildings;
• Workshops offering practical knowledge and experience - short and sharp and visual. Aimed at trade and public;
• Centre for Alternative Technology Book shop featuring the latest publications relevant to the subject(s);
• Advisory area for free impartial advice and resource area with internet access for relevant website demonstrations;
• 2 day event
• 50 exhibitors of products and services i.e. heating/building materials/waste management products
• Audience at each event - 3000 visitors made up of general public and trade/professionals e.g. Architects/builders/building control and planning officers/self-builders;
• Workshop programme - short and sharp and visual. Aimed at the trade.
